Deep Cleaning

A deep cleaning, or “dental root planning,” is a technique for removing plaque bacteria that has built up along and under the gum line. This bacteria irritates the gums and surrounding tissue. This is the process of gum disease.

This deep cleaning is when dentist removes all the plaque and tartar (hardened plaque) above and down the gumline, making sure to clean all the way down to the bottom of the pocket. Dentist will then begin root planing, smoothing out your teeth roots to help your gums reattach to your teeth.
